Five time Grammy Award winner Christian McBride (Philadelphia, 1972) is considered a giant in the jazz world. The virtuoso bass player can be heard on 300 plus recordings by some of the biggest names in jazz. As a teen he already played with such greats as Freddie Hubbard and Benny Golson. In the early 1990’s he continued with Joshua Redman and Roy Hargrove before releasing his Verve solo debut Gettin’To It in 1994. Besides playing with jazz giants Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea, McBride also performed with the likes of Sting and Paul McCartney. In 2006 he followed up Dianne Reeves in the position for Creative Chair of Jazz with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. McBride’s latest release is called Live At The Village Vanguard. In 2016 McBride was named artistic director of the Newport Jazz Festival, succeeding the festival’s founder and artistic director George Wein.
